Your first semester report is about an occupation, a career or role in ancient Rome.
Your paper could be a comparison of Rome to modern times or it could be a research report. You may even tell it in the first person or in the context of a story, making a new character for the ECCE ROMANI book who interacts with the Cornelius family or their slaves. If you choose to write a fictional story, be accurate in your historical information.
The entire project is worth 30 points. It is a fun learning experience, but not as important as your daily assignments to your grade or to your improvement in language and grammar in both Latin and English. Please keep your workload and priorities in perspective.
A. 5 points for bringing a rough draft on time for comments
B. 5 points for interesting or creative content in your own words
C. 5 points for information that is appropriate to Rome during the Empire
D. 5 points for a separate bibliography page with three or more sources
One source must be a nonfiction book. Visit the public library. The other sources may be books, including novels or internet sources. Read the internet sources with caution and look for varying information (remember the VOMITORIA!). You may watch films, but not use them as sources. Record bibliographic information so that I could find your source easily, such as:
E. 5 points for neat handwriting or typing in size 10 or 12 font (double spaced, like this page)
F. 5 points for 500 or more edited words (few spelling and grammar errors)
G.10 bonus points for a presentation (2 to 3 minutes) on your topic in December.
Your presentation may include a visual illustration or 3-D model (a drawing or photograph with a caption, a poster or a three dimensional object that you make to use in your presentation.) You do not have to memorize your presentation but you should not just read your paper aloud. Make it interesting for your classmates and teach them something they don’t already know.
